Trust and Verification

Hash-based verification

ProofTools.io uses SHA-256 hashes to create technical fingerprints of files. If a file changes, its hash changes.

Original file retention

The current beta version processes uploaded files to calculate hashes and generate proof reports. It does not retain original uploaded files after processing. Verification records store technical hashes and metadata.

Independent verification

Users can independently verify a file by calculating its SHA-256 hash and comparing it with the hash shown in the proof record, proof certificate, evidence pack, or verification page.
